I Was a Hurricane
Set during the 2003 high school Ultimate Frisbee season, I Was a Hurricane is a three-part documentary miniseries that follows the Amherst Hurricanes as they rise to challenge youth Ultimate’s reigning powerhouse, Paideia. What begins as a straightforward pursuit of victory takes an unexpected turn when a single controversial moment threatens to derail their entire season.
Told through intimate interviews, raw personal reflections, and never-before-seen archival footage, I Was a Hurricane is more than a sports story, it’s a coming-of-age portrait of young men searching for purpose. Exploring the world of a little-known sport, this documentary reveals how competition shapes character, how pressure uncovers true values, and how, beneath the drive to win, lies a deeper, universal longing—to truly belong.
Post-Production Needs a Hero — That’s You!
Over 20 years in the making, I Was a Hurricane offers a rare, long-term perspective on youth sports and personal growth. This enduring commitment allows the film to go beyond nostalgia, offering a deeper understanding of the cultural and emotional impact of youth athletics.
